the sun never surprises us
as it leaps out of the eastern sky

the moon never lets us down
as it skips in toddler sandles

the brave birch--towering
into the infinite blue sky

the maple of motherly compassion
embraces us as we hug her bark

small pools of salty water
held watery by forgiving earth

surface of stoic pond
holding a million eyes

depth of water realizes
the only one way to be

courageous eternity crawls
before standing below opal moon

studied compassion drives
no bargain--knowing fully in the sun

still the cypress breathes
fringed endings--promising

love born out of mother of pearl
will shine forever--purple peace
