Hah-nu-nah

In the Seneca language, the mythical turtle is called Hah-nu-nah~

Hah-nu-nah, mythic turtle- take your time
you've been moving slowly,
covering much ground

for more centuries
than we have written down
how slow is needed

in this world of quickness, cutting
the earth in slivers of splintered wood
when once we all worshiped the same tree

now it's coming down, down down
to this sitting by the pond
and just watching how the world

has always been here to teach us
the gentle art of slowing down
far-reaching in it's telescope

magnifying truths we cannot see
when madly pacing on streets
racing in our cars to meet

another human soul
(who too is caught in this bind)
why don't we slow down

turtle medicine pours her liquid
green healing to all those
who wish to journey silence's trail

when will we wake up to the food
that we hunger for; it is closer
than anyone knows, the key

courts us with a rather huge
overdue volume of responsibility
to not hurt anyone-- no exceptions

we are either going to face the mirrored truth
or we shall perish in our blind denial; as we flee,
there is only one heart among us

so every time a hurt is flung upon your brother
you are hurting yourself ten times over
there is still time to recalibrate

hurry up(while slowing down)
don't be late(you, and only you)
can create, and change your fate
