you simply dropped leaves~for those who lost loved ones in 9/11


you simply dropped leaves
from your family tree
never to be replaced in this lifetime

still you adjust, move through the darkness
try to make sense of the loss, in the way
that suits you the very best

my heart goes out to you,
and to what you must do
to tread water, to try to stay

above the murky undertow
i salute your courage, your tears
your frantic fears

if i could, i would take you
under my sheltering wings, and shade you
from the pain of the sun's harshness

if i could, i would take your hand,
and walk awhile under the soft moon light
helping to smoothen the roughness

my prayers pump balloons of love
floating over your urban home
cascading out to sea

may all the love
that you and your loved ones
are composed of,...continue

to write songs of joyous remembrance;
as courage means with heart-
you move from that place, while

a quickening flips through your chambers,
an opening creates---new fresh blood   
of possibilities to create more love

blessings become who you are,
as you have come so far
i salute you, not so distant stars
