Practicing deep looking

To be able to give happiness and joy, you must practice deep looking toward the person you love. Because if you do not understand this person, you cannot love properly.~ Thich Nhat Hanh

when one is busy being narcissistic,
she does not witness deeply looking
at what makes another tick next door

losing touch with human connection
makes one a  walking robot- a car
running down the hill, out of control

not knowing how your neighbor is feeling
is an insulated response to wishing to be
in the limelight, rising to the morning lights' flame

fame never once made souls dance purely
a perfect ground for sly politicians and winning actors
who will have you believe what they say is real

i say accountability lessens as one's
values turn to the elevation of self, with all
the accoutements of falsely raising spirit

at the expense of putting one's neighbor's deep
into the ground; to raise oneself by placing one on mountain's top
is the weak game we played as children, "i'm king of the mountain"

it is embarrassing riches to play the game of childhood
and think one's karma can get away with hurtful guises
perchance to dream and love once again all people as one
