Simple strength of Solitude

Simple




This was originally written in 1994, entitled, Secret strength of Solitude. I changed the title, in order to stay apart from all of the SECRET buzz that has been shaking up the world these last few years. I agree that it was good advertising, as everyone wishes to be apart of a secret. However, once the secret is out, it is public domain.


To many, the thought of being alone for more than five minutes is scary, impossible, or unheard of. One's spouse, "the kids", TV, Internet, work, housekeeping all seem to take top precedence. For those who seek solitude as a focus for their daily life, they may truely find strength.
This seeking for solitude may be found among artists, musicians, poets,
painters, whose solitude is crucial for creating works of art. However meditators, yogi's, and nature buffs can attest to the peacefulness which is created through their choosing solitude as well.
Take a day off, and visit a local park. Breath in the unique aromas of the
e pine trees, or the salty air at the beach. Immerse yourself in a pink peppermint bubble bath, while chanting, OM SHANTI, the universal chant for peace. Sit quietly at the base of a tree that speaks to you. Feel the natural energies of the tree
coursing up your spine. Lay on your back on a grassy field, and gaze at the stars.


All of the above activites involve JUST YOU. You may just find yourself connecting to a part of yourself long forgotton. Like an old friend, or your favorite book from childhood, embrace it! These are the gifts that have always been present, just tucked away. These gifts are the open door to greater and deeper discoveries of inner peace, and wisdom. A natural, and most important by-product you might discover is a profound and lasting experience of self-love! Drink in your gifts!

ors, philosophers, nature buffs seek solitude at times, for solitudes sake.
Those who have solitude foisted upon them can make it either work for the
m, or theycan be victimized by it. An examples include: a woman's husband leaves her, she loses her job, or her spouse dies. The widow can mourn for years, and
focus on the "good old days", or create a plan to change her life radically.
Take a course through adult education, and see where it may go. Be willing NOT to know where it will go;enter the mystery!

Being alone, by oneself, can be a treasure trove~where one may discover all of his or her gifts, and ways to put them to use in the world. In contrast, when
one is with others, and in many diverse activities, he or she may miss, or forget about those gifts. There is so much involvement, connecting to the needs of children, co-workers, spouse.





























The gifts are always present, just tucked away. Waiting for the right time to reveal themselves. Some things one could do, to help create conditions for revealing one's gifts include, but are not limited to, the following.
Take a day off.
Take a walk in the park at lunchtime.
Stroll by the seashore, by the full moon's light.
Gaze out the window, at the changing color of the leaves.
Read poetry outloud by candlelight.
Take a hot bubble bath, with a warm cup of comforting herbal tea.
